Tempting Tuesday: Green eats at Gotham Bar and Grill
May 31, 2011
NEW YORK, USA – Good news for garden-fresh gourmets looking for some summertime specials. As part of its “Greenmarket to Gotham” promotion, one of our NYC faves for upscale eats, Michelin-starred Gotham Bar and Grill, is offering a weekday prix fixe lunch featuring local produce for a swell USD 25.
Here’s the skinny: each week for the 14 weeks of summer between Memorial Day and Labor Day (May 20-September 2, 2011), Gotham’s celebrated chefs Alfred Portale and Adam Longworth will create a prix fixe menu that highlights the produce of one of the local farms featured at the nearby Union Square Greenmarket. Besides saving diners some green on gourmet eats and bigging up local greenmarket growers, the promotion will also be boosting the city’s green creds by supporting GrowNYC’s Garden Initiative, which is working to provide a garden for every NYC public school. (Five percent of the price of each prix fixe meal ordered will be donated to the program.)
The promotion kicks off this week with produce from Eckerton Hill Farm of Hamburg, Pennsylvania, and features dishes like English Pea Soup and Eckerton Asparagus (served with grilled fingerling potatoes, Hen of the Woods mushroom ramps, and Eckerton Hill Farm eggs). Menus will change weekly.
