Work with Pleasure at New York City Business-Friendly Hotels
December 23, 2013
NEW YORK, US – Corporate retreats and business trips might seem more like dry work obligations than exciting travel opportunities. But when the trip is to New York City (for those insanely lucky business travelers), the otherwise work-focused agenda can also bring some much-needed fun. And while we’re totally onboard with spending any free time exploring our favorite New York sights, fun hotel perks are certainly a nice added bonus to any company getaway. Here’s a sampling of our best-loved business-friendly NYC hotels and their stellar professional amenities.
The Midtown location means we’re perfectly close to some for-fun Broadway shows and the iconic Times Square, but the complimentary limo transport (yes, you read that right) to Wall Street for when we’re ready to work is extra convenient. Amenities like the daily free papers and the continental breakfast make us feel very old-school business. The Renaissance-themed hotel prides itself on European and Italian tradition and history (even the staff have Italian accents), and we love the grand piano shows in the lobby and the operettas playing in the common areas. We might be in New York, but the Italian touches are a nice escape from the standard boardroom.
The Ritz-Carlton New York, Battery Park
This swanky and sexy business spot (yes, it’s possible to be both, as the Ritz has proven) is just steps away from Wall Street, so expect plenty of business types strolling through the area and around the lobby. While we love the divine spa, modern gym, and six meeting rooms (which hold up to 400 guests), the best part is easily the complimentary telescopes in our rooms. They point straight at the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, so we can check those must-see NYC sights without leaving the main island. Another plus? The club-level upgrade means that we get free drinks and complimentary Internet access. That way we can always play a little bit of hooky while we work from our room.
Let’s face it. We do need to do some work while on these trips. So expect plenty of productivity when staying at The Shoreham: it provides 24-hour gourmet cappuccinos to keep us alert and caffeinated. If we need a quick jolt in the a.m., or are cramming for a presentation well into the wee hours of the morning, the complimentary handcrafted java is certainly a nice perk. And just because we’re away from home, that won’t stop us from keeping up with our workout plans either. Luckily, The Shoreham has a state-of-the-art fitness center, complete with weights, treadmills, ellipticals, and a yoga area. That way, we can work out the stress of the travel and conferences without having to leave the comfort of the hotel.
W New York
We’re always fans of the trusted W hotel chain, but the Union Square outpost is especially wonderful when traveling for business. The “Whatever/Whenever” feature is like a personal assistant/secretary at our service. Whether we need a copy of that 200-page business report, need help booking a client dinner, or want a quick translation for our international partners, the 24/7 assistant is there to help. Better yet, the Living Room lobby and bar lounge are ideal places to unwind after a long day in conference meetings and double as great casual meeting spots with fellow coworkers. But be sure to venture outside the beautiful hotel walls. The glorious Union Square location means we’re close to plenty of shopping spots and the Union Square Greenmarket for when we’re feeling like adding some organic fare to our diet.
