Jam like an Egyptian at Cleopatra’s Needle
May 21, 2009
NEW YORK, USA – A gem of a jazz venue, Cleopatra’s Needle serves up food, standard drinks, and fantastic jazz performances. I came upon this little Upper West Side boite the other Thursday night, and it was such a treat; my friends and I caught the jam session, which is the late night session after the scheduled act. The jam session goes from 11:00pm to 2:00am, and it was a wonderful way to wrap the night up. Rumor has it, even Count Basie has made it to these jam sessions. With no cover and just lovers of jazz (and even novice listeners like yours truly) relaxing to the tunes, this mellow jazz club is worth dropping by. The Upper West Side is a tough neighborhood for destination places (i.e., most drinking establishments on the UWS tend to be of the bar variety catering to Columbia students); however, this has definitely made it into that category of places I will be travelling to on a regular basis.
