Oceans of possibilities at The Spa at The Breakers in Palm Beach

January 6, 2013

PALM BEACH, USA – Could there be anything more relaxing than a day beachside at the palatial Palm Beach resort The Breakers? Brilliant sun, white sand, soothing waves, swaying palm trees, and a beach club to cater to your every whim are sure to wring out every last twitch of stress from the “real world.” But, believe it or not, there’s an even deeper layer of relaxation to be had here, and it’s name is The Spa at The Breakers.

Though the Palm Beach area features a number of luxurious spas, what sets The Spa at The Breakers apart is its oceanfront real estate. Surf, sky, and sand act as an extension of the already expansive facilities, which include a vast outdoor lap pool and private relaxation courtyard, so you can be soothed as much by the elements as by your expert treatment technician.

As you might expect in this evocative setting, the treatment menu as a whole veers toward the marine-inspired. You can take a skin-balancing Seaweed Bubble Bath, rejuvenate your body with a Sea Salt Scrub, or treat your toesies to A Walk on the Beach pedicure. I also love the Orchidée Impériale Facial, which incorporates the tropical power of Guerlain products. In keeping with the pace of the waves, treatments here are not meant to be rushed–don’t come expecting a quickie. The spa requires that all guests book a minimum of one hour of treatments (not, for example, a mere 25 minute Sea Salt Scrub).

That’s just fine by me, because there’s plenty to occupy you here for a full day of relaxation and rejuvenation. Forget getting bored in a lounge waiting for your therapist–there’s a lap pool to be swum! A courtyard to explore! A manicure to be had! From the whirlpool spa to lap pool, fitness center (with an ocean view!), salon, and saunas, you won’t want for much of anything.

The treatments at this oceanfront oasis do come at premium prices. And although service is generally stellar, one of my peeves is the 20% gratuity automatically added to all bills, regardless of the quality of service. You’d think a place so in tune with the elements would give you a little more tipping autonomy.

But even if a visit here weighs down your credit card, you’re pretty much guaranteed to emerge from The Spa at the Breakers feeling light as the sea breeze. Luckily, there’s an easy way to maintain that glow: just head for the beach.
