Nightlife with a Little Zest at Café Citron in Washington, DC
October 14, 2013
WASHINGTON, DC, US – When life gives you lemons, make lemonade! While it may be getting cooler out, the heat is on at Washington, DC‘s Café Citron, a Latin-themed restaurant/bar/dance club in Dupont Circle where señoritas and señores with serious rhythm know they can shimmy over to get a good dose of Latin dance and sip sensational signature mojitos. Summer dance parties may have moved indoors, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t still opportunities to show off those legs on the dance floor.
Inside, the electric yellow- and green-hued walls are just as stirring as the pulsating electro-Latin music that spins until the early hours of the morning. Start the night right and hit up happy hour from Tuesday to Saturday and, once the groove is on, hang around for free salsa classes (Friday), passionate live flamenco shows (Saturday), and other fiery events planned during the week.
If you and your party-animal crew need some “salsa” after all that salsa, the kitchen offers enticing small plates to refuel (until 11:00pm during the week, and 1:00am on Friday and Saturday). Some of our favorites include Spanish-style empanadas, served warm and accompanied with a tangy salsa verde, or “tapa taquitos” piled high with meat, cheese, veggies, and guacamole.
When we’ve finally run out of juice, we’re always glad to have made reservations at one of our fave nearby hotels including The Dupont Circle Hotel, Hotel Palomar Washington, DC or Hotel Madera. After a healthy dose of “lemon-aid” (as in multiple mojitos and tangy salsa), sinking into bed is just what the doctor ordered.
