The Hill Gets Happy at Trusty’s in Washington, DC
February 11, 2014
WASHINGTON, DC, US – Capitol Hill has long been enamored of the happy hour, that golden time at the end of the work day when ties get loosened and snacks and libations take the edge off partisan stress. Yet happy hours in the immediate neighborhood tend to be of the rather stuffy variety, with graying suits sipping still-expensive cocktails at glossy lounges. That’s why Trusty’s−a youthful, casual bar and grill on the Hill in Washington, DC−is such a refreshing change of pace.
Decorated with an old-fashioned filling station theme (think vintage Mobil station signs and license plates mounted on the walls) on the first floor, Trusty’s is a reliably good place to “fill ‘er up.” A fun-loving group of young Hill staffers pile in for the congenial vibes and cheap drinks during happy hour (Monday-Friday from 4:00pm-7:00pm), with USD 1 off all drafts and USD 1 off all rail drinks. Bites like nachos, burgers, and bratwurst hit the spot when you’re running on empty.
Things are even more festive upstairs in the “Bus Bar,” a watering hole ensconced in a real-life school bus. Funky details like lunchbox lamps and a chandelier made of thermoses complete the juvenile theme. Cool kids flock for the dose of after-school irony, cocktails served in mason jars, and cans of PBR. Also upstairs is an open-air patio that buzzes in nice weather.
As popular as happy hour is, Trusty’s is truly a “full-service” affair that’s also hopping later in the evenings and on the weekends. Brunch is served Saturdays and Sundays 10:00am-3:00pm, when bottomless Bloody Marys and Screwdrivers go for USD 14. Sports games and Tuesday Trivia Nights also pack ‘em in. No matter what time of day or night, we can always count on a low-key atmosphere, unpretentious staff, and trendy crowd.
That’s Trusty’s. We trust it!
