WASHINGTON, DC, US – For anyone who considers himself or herself a cheese connoisseur or just loves everything and anything cheese (which is pretty much everyone aside from vegans and the lactose intolerant, right?), Cowgirl Creamery is the place to go to grab an afternoon snack or to prep for any dinner party or picnic.

Located right next door to the National Portrait Gallery, the Creamery is constantly packed with tourists, foodies, and suits on lunch break. The full-service cheese shop offers a carryout lunch counter and charcuterie, as well as beer and wine to perfectly match any cheese selection. Plenty of in-house cheese experts will help you identify and discover which you like best. And with daily cheese tastings between 4:00pm and 6:00pm, even the biggest novice can become a cheese specialist in no time.

Owners Sue Conley and Peggy Smith began their cheesemaking business in the early 1990s in San Francisco, after having spent years working the restaurant business. When they launched their first marketing company, Tomales Bay Foods, they set up shop in a renovated hay barn in downtown Point Reyes. The venue just so happened to have a small cheesemaking room, and with that, their new passion was born. Or cultured, you could say.

So two decades and two tons of cheese later, the duo continues to bring their quality cheeses to consumers all over the country (their cheeses are also sold nationally through Whole Foods Markets). The menu includes all cheeses from their most popular Mt. Tam (an aged cheese with hints of white mushroom) to their Chimney Rock (a fall seasonal favorite with orange blossom and apricot flavors) and anything in between. And the selection easily rivals any European cheese collection.

So if you’re craving a gourmet cheese sandwich for lunch, preparing for a dinner party, want a truly one-of-a-kind gift, or might even be planning a picnic at any of DC’s parks (Rock Creek Park is just a short drive away and is especially great for a picnic with the family or a date!), Cowgirl Creamery will provide you will all the cheeses, crackers, and spreads to make it a hit.
