Introducing: Washington, DC – Capital Chic
June 25, 2013
WASHINGTON, DC – The Purple Passport has gone to Washington! No, we haven’t been tapped to serve as a congresswoman or ambassador (though we’d of course be honored…). We’ve simply launched the latest addition to our growing collection of online guides: our Guide to Washington, DC!
The guide is arriving at a very auspicious time, first because summer is now officially underway, and DC is ripe for a visit with tons of free outdoor cultural activities in addition to its ever-popular (and mainly free) museums and monuments. But second, and most importantly, because DC has undergone an enormous transformation within the past decade, and this truly seems like the diamond-shaped city’s moment to shine!
Traditionally stodgy DC is shedding its stuffy image and becoming (gasp!) hip. In the past 10 years, there’s been an influx of residents in their 20s and early 30s who have prompted a boom in fashion-forward boutiques, hot nightlife spots, savvy spas, and stylish hotels. Now cool and cosmopolitan, colonial and conservative all at once, the city is as glittering and tough as an actual diamond, with as many faces.
Our new guide, packed with 225 venues, points the way to all the best places to shop, dine, and party on the vanguard of this stylish wave. At the same time, the guide covers all the important historic sights, classic restaurants, and more that reveal the grandeur of DC’s Old World past and the sharp focus of its politicking present.
Of course, just because we’re not announcing our entry into politics doesn’t mean that the whole political machine thing doesn’t fascinate us. In fact, you’ll find plenty of ways throughout the guide to see the system in action (from the U.S. Capitol building to The Supreme Court) and rub shoulders with Beltway insiders and rising political stars (whether it’s dining at Bistro Bis or cocktailing at Round Robin & Scotch Bar).
Once you’ve settled on your Washington, DC, picks, don’t forget to sign up for a free account in the upper right hand corner of the homepage to take advantage of our Passport tool. You can save your favorite venues in your very own customized “Passport,” email your picks to friends and traveling companions, and print a convenient map with venue contact information. When you sign up, you can also opt to be on the mailing list for our super-informative monthly newsletter. And because the best spots always fill up fast, be sure to book your hotel with us via the handy Tablet button (just look for it below the picture on many Hotel reviews on our site).
With our Washington, DC Guide at your disposal, you’ll see that the city has become so much more than just a buttoned-up company town. It’s chic…with a “Capital” C!
