The Crown Jewel of Vintage Accessories at Legendary Beast in Washington, DC

November 4, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC, US – If we’re ever in the mood for an accessories scavenger hunt or are in desperate need of that perfect piece of jewelry for our themed dress-up party, Legendary Beast in Washington, DC, is our go-to place.

Blink and you might miss it. Located atop ShoeFly on U Street, the tiny vintage accessories boutique is filled to the brim with treasures. Any antique or vintage thrift shopper (let’s channel our inner Macklemore) can appreciate these finds. Never mind that most items don’t come at thrift store prices.

Though the store may seem like a chaotic eruption of steel, tin, gold, and sterling silver pieces, owner Anne Fox is our guiding light. Somehow, among the scattered and hectic arrangements, she is able to find exactly what we need or want. A Mariam Haskell, never-worn Roman medallion necklace? She’ll show you one. A Victorian Egyptian revival collar? That might be resting on the mannequin.

The quirky pieces range through myriad decades and time periods. From the Art Deco cascading necklaces of the Roaring Twenties, to the mod beads and baubles of the 1960s, Anne has it all. The best part: she can even tell you the story behind nearly every single piece within her store. The back-stories of the historic jewels make the one-of-a-kind pieces take on an extra level of character. And since we’re owning a piece of history, we don’t feel so guilty for splurging.

The store is only open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays (and occasionally on holiday Mondays), which is admittedly limited, but it’s good to know we can cruise in for a last-minute weekend party accessory or even a hostess gift. We’re guaranteed no one else will have a duplicate of our signature bauble or present. Now that’s some legendary bling!
